MANY of you have asked what life will be like for us living in The People's Republic of China. I have spent the last few months scouring all information I can about it. I feel the only way to deal with this is to prepare...and have faith.
I have been emailing many American women who live in Beijing. I, also, have found a number of blogs (not too sure how they get around the government but I will be sure to find out!). The information from these sources have been invaluable. I hope that I will be able to help some other "freaking out expat" down the road.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read this post!
She and her husband (who works for the embassy) will be in the branch of our church. I have yet to meet her, but am thrilled to thank her in person.

Beijing really isn't much worse than living in any other large city. Bear in mind that most bloggers won't write "I went to the bank today and everything was fine". They tend to relate the amusing or unexpected, or vent their frustrations.
For every post about staring or spitting there's dozens of unwritten stories about the amazing food, friendly people and wonderful sights, but when writing for an audience beyond friends and family they don't often translate well to that wider reach.
I lived in London for years, and it's fine, but routine. My favourite aspect about Beijing is that there's something unexpected around every corner. Not always pleasant, but generally interesting.
Plus, once you've tasted the exquisite flavour of your first Sichuan hotpot, you'll never be able to go back to Western-Chinese food again.
crazy crazy crazy! but it's nice to hear that there are ways to share something that is so important.
