Beachy Red, White and Blue

I am back!
Life over at Behind The Refrigerator Door and my business has been busy! But I am LOVING my life at the beach, while helping others get healthier and happier!

This morning on my run I saw this adorable cottage, right there on the beach. I paused my Garmin and HAD to snap pics to share with you!

You are invited to Cancun with Me!

I am SO excited! I am booking a trip today! You guys know that my family and I travel quite a bit (we are blessed to have those opportunities through hubby's job) BUT THIS trip will be different!

WHY? Because it is going to mean SO MUCH more to me because it will be FREE! I am earning my all paid trip to CANCUN by doing what I love, which is helping people get healthy and happy. I told you my job IS THE BEST! This is just one of the many things I LOVE about Beachbody...I get rewarded for ENDING THE TREND OF OBESITY!

Of course, Mark will be there with me, along with a lot of my friends! The best part is...ANYONE can get in on this action and starting now will:
- KEEP YOU FOCUSED ON YOUR OWN HEALTH GOALS
- Make you GOOD MONEY
- CHANGE your life because you are helping people everyday to achieve SUCCESS! (that is WHY I am SO HAPPY all the time!)

I am starting a new "What is Coaching" Bootcamp on Feb 2nd if you are interested in REWARDING your ACHIEVEMENTS and going to CANCUN with me in APRIL, 2015! Message me and we will chat!

What I've Been Up To!

Please, please, please forgive me for being MIA.
I always said I would never be one of those bloggers, but that is exactly what I've turned into.

However, I LOVE why I have been gone for so long. I am working again and I LOVE every single second of it. It has been quite some time since I have been this enthusiastic about anything. It has completely changed my life!

Most of you know that I have become a coach for Beachbody. Last time I posted this announcement, with a video, I really had no idea how much of an impact it would have on my life. I am healthier and more fit than I have ever been. My family is eating healthy six days a week. I help people all day long and the connections and reconnections I have made have been the highlight of the last three months! I am part of a team that is supportive, positive and encouraging. And I get to do all of this while making money! Too good to be true? Nope! And guess what?  I am ALWAYS looking for help...so if you are interested, PLEASE talk to me!

I could talk about getting healthy all day long...BUT there are so many other positive things going on in my life too! Of course, my life IS NOT perfect...but moving to the beach has made it pretty darn close. Sure, there are still trials, struggles, miscommunication and my two teenagers. BUT I can go just down the hill and see the ocean and all feels better.

With the holidays here, I hope to connect with each and every one of you. Please do not hesitate to comment or chat with me on Facebook. Truly, my friends and family are the most important thing in my life! I hope to hear from you soon!
Love,
Jen

PS It is truly my desire to post here AT LEAST once a week, so please continue to check back:)

Friday Favorites- 9.13.13

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
I am starting a new item here for Fall called Jen's Friday Favorites! Each Friday I will post some things during my week that I have fallen in love with and why. I hope that you share your favorite finds with me too!

  • The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy- I think every single person should read this book! It explains how the little choices we make in our life either add to the success or lack of success in our lives. It applies to spirituality, health, finances, relationships and getting to your fullest potential. I LOVE IT!
  • My Garmin Forerunner 210. My husband recently gave it to me for our anniversary. It is super easy to use, light and accurate.
  • Shakeology Chocolate. I feel guilty when I drink it because it tastes so sinful but then I remember how SUPER HEALTHY it is!
  • Les Mills Pump. I have gotten so much more defined and stronger doing this three times a week! I finally am getting rid of the jiggle!
  • PB2- All natural peanut butter with wayyyy less fat? Yes, please!

Picture Catch-Up

Life has been busy! Here are a few shots from the last couple of weeks.

Hubby and D went to Shanghai for the weekend to watch the Formula One race. I hear it was loud, high adrenaline and a blast!
He was supporting the Mercedes team

At the Bund in Shanghai

Dad of the Year Award!

Dang, he is cute!
I have been working hard on my health!
Why do I sweat so much more than everyone else!
(Rhetorical Question)

Awesome full moon on a clear night

Yay for Spring!

Oh, the smell of Lilacs! Makes me miss my home in No Cal...
My amazing friend and Mandarin teacher met me for lunch and introduced me to a few new dishes.
Tofu and some green, leafy yumminess

I honestly cannot give up these little babies. One thing I will truly miss!

Flip-flop weather!

Hosting a conference call, driving a stick shift, drinking a soda IN BEIJING TRAFFIC
(apparently with his eyes closed). Heaven help us!

The new mom-mobile!

Need some dishes? How about getting them from the back of a cart?

Jupi, hubby and D (on his ripstick) strolling down 2nd Ring Rd.
I am super irritated about the guard railing they just put up. It serves no purpose and makes it SO difficult as Chinese people rarely move over. See those yellow bricks to the left...they are for the visually impaired and nobody wants to walk on them. Stupid guard rails that serve no purpose and make my life inconvenient!
Last remainder of the Beijing City Wall...at dusk.
 So beautiful!

Family fun time!

Come visit us on Behind The Refrigerator Door this week!
We are talking about stress...

Follow Me on Facebook~ Behind The Refrigerator Door

Not too many things in life are constant...like one's address;) But I have found that the need to be healthy is something that everyone, everywhere should be doing. For a lot, like me, focusing on being healthy has had it's ups and downs. It is all chronicled on my other blog: Behind The Refrigerator Door.

I do not have multiple personalities, it is the same Jen over there as is here on TimeOutForMe, although that gets a little more personal. I definitely "let it all hang out".

Someday my two blogs may merge, but for now, you are invited to follow the Behind The Refrigerator Door Facebook Page. This is NOT a place for me to blab all the time. It is a place where WE can all share and feel validated about our successes and temporary set-backs on our road to good health! I hope you will join us!

The Big Four Oh !

Sigh . . . it is getting close. . . the next decade.

If you asked me how I was feeling about turning 40 I would honestly say, "Fine. I really feel like a 25 year old." It is true. I was talking to someone in their twenties a couple of weeks ago and I made the mistake of saying we were in the same generation. He quickly reminded me we weren't. On the surface I really do feel young at heart.

But I can't lie. I am definitely struggling in many aspects of life and I wonder if it has something to do with entering this new stage. It is so cliché to mention the (ahem) midlife crisis...I thought those were only for men dying their gray and driving red sports cars.

When I was in my twenties I was a college graduate who was focusing on my career as a teacher. I had two young children and struggled to balance life. Our marriage was a work in progress as he commuted and worked long hours working his way up the ladder and trying to provide for us. My domestic urges tugged at my heart strings.

In my thirties I decided to focus my energy on being a mom rather than a teacher. Although there was a major pay cut which led to stress, we both knew it was the right decision. I felt satisfaction serving my children, maintaining my home (a passion of mine) and taking time for myself with exercise and social functions. I spent a lot of time volunteering at school, working part time teaching and volunteering in church services.

That leads me to this point. It appears that I lead this amazingly adventurous life. It is true and I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given. However, somewhere over time my dreams have been achieved and I forgot to make new ones. My dreams were short sighted as they consisted of cute little kids and a happy marriage. I really didn't look beyond that. Well, those cute kiddos are grown now. I am in a country where volunteering at school is slim to none due to distance and my passion of homemaking is very limited as well. I still volunteer at church and have a fairly active social life. When I sit back to analyze hobbies and interests I quickly realize it has been so long that I'd invested time in those I don't even know what they are anymore.

I know I am not alone in this. As a matter of fact, I am sure this is quite common. I used to be an independent, strong, confident woman who knew exactly who she wanted to be. Now I am a dependent, indecisive, insecure woman who tags along with everyone else's dreams. I hope younger women can learn from me and prevent this from happening, if there is a way.

Being a mother is the most rewarding job in the world! The giggles, adorable sayings, and sweet hugs fueled me through the sleepless nights and tantrums. As they grow the rewards are different. The affection is few and far between and the relationships become more complex. All of a sudden our "payments" aren't as much or as frequent.

This takes a toll on me. I have always been one that needs recognition and appreciation. While being a mother is rewarding, it is also thankless. By nature, moms look for ways to make the lives of our loved ones easier and happier. We don't always get it back in return. We are supposed to be okay with that. If we ask for too much society labels us as difficult or high maintenance.

I don't know what this next decade has in store. After all, I never expected to be living in China !  That proves that anything can happen. It is up to me to make sure that I continue to be grateful for all the positive in my life. It is up to me to make sure I combat negative feelings and find joy in the journey. It is up to me to find my own dreams and follow them.

Relay for Life- 2010

Last Saturday I did the most amazing thing! After I finished this, I participated in Relay for Life. Cancer affects us all and I feel this cause is an important one. My kids and I arrived around 4pm to walk the track and man our booth. Our team was parents and kids from school. It was a blast! The kids and I spent the night and left to go home around 6:00am.
These are luminaria bags. They line the entire track, as well as spell out HOPE and CURE on the bleachers. Each bag is made "in honor of" or "in memory of" someone who has battled cancer. I urge you to look for a local event in your area and make a team!

Napa, CA

I was born in Napa, CA almost 38 years ago. My Grandmother continued to live there, so I have lots of memories of the town, valley and scenery.

This past weekend some friends and I signed up for a 10K race in Napa. We were able to go up the night before. What a treat! We ate in a swanky place and giggled during our slumber party. Then came race time!
Here is the view of what we looked at while running. The rolling hills were a little challenge, but we trained well for them. It was great!

After the race we showered, had lunch and hit the outlets! All in time for me to buy New Moon!

What a perfect R&R weekend!

"I'm Not A Runner!"~oh YES I am!

As a new year unfolds I have been thinking about my blog. My posts have been few and far between. My home is ever evolving, but with funds tight and getting to a place of contentment I am doing less and less projects.
When I began on my blogging journey I purposely kept my family out of it. It is not because they aren't important, I simply wanted something all my own. But a few friends of mine have published their blogs into great coffee table books and I have to admit I am a bit envious.
So when I thought about what has been taking up my time....something worth blogging about....I did conclude that I have been working hard at becoming healthy and can now run 5 miles! Of course, my other blog speaks more in detail about the changes I've made. But the gist of it is, "Jen, you should run with us."
"Uh, no. I am not a runner. I don't like anything about it."
After losing 20 pounds by eating right and walking, the next comfortable step was to jog. And I haven't stopped since then. I began song by song and now I am running my first 10 K on the 20th of February! Let me tell you...I thought I had gotten to know myself pretty well in my 37 years, but it is amazing to find something inside yourself that you never knew existed! I know it is a cliche, but:
If I can do it, YOU can do it!!!!

the GOOD-the BAD- & the UGLY

the GOOD- Love Walked In is the first book. This is not your typical "Jen = love story". It is so sweet and actually it is about so much more than a boy/girl romance. If you want a warm and fuzzy good Fall read, this is it! Belong To Me is the second of the two. I am devouring it right now. The author has a PhD in poetry so the writing is pretty, as well as the story. Once again...heartwarming!

the BAD- No excuses, but when I am PMSing all health goes out the window. Also, my motivation to get things done flies out right behind it. So, yes, I have eaten many of these! I don't even really like them, but they have been the perfect combination to the good book and the chilly weather. Is there a Halloween candy that you could eat an entire bag of if you were OUT OF YOUR MIND?the UGLY- This is what I have been needing to do while I have been enjoying the good & the bad. I need a little of this to get it done. But reading just seems so much more enjoyable right now. I do have tinted grout so it is not AS gross as it looks, but it is still REALLY gross!

I do need to get this cleaned before hubby comes home on Friday. Who likes to come home to an icky shower after staying in a hotel?
update- the shower is clean! It wasn't that bad.
