Why Did I Do IT?

No news to y'all that I am home now. Confession to follow...

...One of my favorite things to do when I am traveling is read an entertaining book. I did both of those things on this trip. As I said before I took three books with me for our two week jaunt and read through them in the first week. I picked up another book at Kmart which lasted me another four days. Then my family left and I had 24 hours to myself. What was I going to do? No car, no book...so I did it! I went into the market at the hotel and looked through their six novels...all inflated $4.50 above the asking price. The only book that was for women was Sex And The City. Here is my justification:
I've always been curious about the show, a lot of my friends like it.
It is the only book here that does not involve spying and killing.
It can't be that bad! I have read some juicy books in my day.

As she steps onto her soapbox... I read the first 100 pages and OMGosh! It was such filth and slime it made my insides sick! Sorry to any of you who read it and liked it But seriously, I am so ashamed (not guilt) that A) I even read that many pages! B) people saw me reading it! thank goodness my daughter had left already C) Most of all, I did not listen to the Holy Spirit.

"You make choices every day and almost every hour that keep you walking in the light or moving away toward darkness."President Henry B. Eyring First Counselor in the First Presidency

So why am I writing this confession? Because I want people to know , including my children, that ~we all face social pressure ~that we all don't make the right choice all the time~and that these experiences can teach and strengthen what we already know to be true.

I feel so disgusted by that book that I would not even allow it in my house. I feel so repulsed by it that I would not even pass it onto someone else. There goes $12.50 right into the garbage can (hubby will kill me for that). I am angry that this stuff has made it into mainstream society in such a way. Before Sex And The City was a book, tv show and movie it was a column in the New York Times!!! Could you imaging opening the newspaper and reading that?

I know many of you are thinking "wow, this chick is a major prude!". You know what? Fine with me! And no, I am not promoting censorship!

I know what you mean Jen. Sometimes you get in that mood to where you say, oh so and so are reading it or watching it, it must be good. And then you indulge and can't believe what it is really like. I am so glad that you listened though, and decided to put it down. Isn't it a shame how much filth is as there that is deemed good? We really do have to govern ourselves. We always can't rely sometimes even on our peers. You are a great mother.

Jen, you know what I totally agree with you. I'm not a prude and I tried watching the TV series because everyone was watching it. But, I could not get into it.

My sister went and saw the movie and tried to get me to go so we could talk about it (she is not really religious), but warned me of the "full frontal nudity!" Needless to say, I did not go and see it. You should never be ashamed for sticking up for what is right. Great job!
