What's to Eat? - Donghuamen Night Market

Just at the North entrance of Wangfujing in Beijing, you will find the Donghuamen Night Street Food Market!

I first saw this market on this show. I had never forgotten these "burrito-type" creations out of my mind. So when I saw them I knew that was going to be my dinner.

First they take a very thin pancake (see back of above photo) and slather it with sauce. They ask if you would like fresh green onion, yes! Next they add shredded vegetables like carrots, cucumbers and cabbage (see left of above photo). Last they fill it with the meat concoction, which is chicken here. It was exactly like I was hoping, SO GOOD!

Seasoned lamb on a stick is a staple in Beijing. This is colleague of hubbys from the States that we just happen to run into.

D was not digging the "exotic" smells of the market. He chose to play it safe with one of these beautiful fresh fruit cups. He wouldn't even let them put jello on it.

E had her eye on fried ice cream! It has a sweet, crunchy outer crust and is served on a piece of French toast.

When we came for a visit in February I LOVED these fresh fruit dipped in sugar creations! Of course we all had to try one.

~deep fried bananas~

~lamb legs~

~tea with dry ice~

~very garlicky oysters~

~French fries between two fried eggs~
Some things we did not dare to try!

~lamb heart (left) & silk worms (center)~

~lots and lots of eel~

~drippy squid~

~centipede~

~mini scorpions~

~not so mini scorpions~

~ crickets~

~ I have no clue what these are~

~snake~

~sea horse~

~live, creepy, crawly scorpions~

And if you were wondering if people actually eat these things...well, this guy does!

This, by far, has been our most fun night in Beijing so far!
